President's Message

Hello WTS Members and Friends,

I am writing this newsletter just days after celebrating at the Annual Awards Banquet. This is always such a fun night, and I enjoy spending time with all of you. It takes so much to pull off such a spectacular event. So, I want to thank Banquet Co-chairs Gwen Jurisich and Lani Marshall and their Banquet Committee once again. Every detail, from the check-in process and the raffle items, to the additional bars and the run-of-show, was thoughtfully planned out to make this night as fun as it was! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Remember this night at the end of the year when it is time to submit nominations for Member, Woman, and Employer of the Year, as well as the Honorable Ray LaHood, Innovative Transportation Solutions and Rosa Parks Diversity Awards. I encourage you to nominate your companies, your coworkers, and your projects. And remember to spread the word about the WTS Scholarships.

If you are thinking that you would like to become more involved in our Chapter, there are always plenty of opportunities to help with a variety of committees, activities, and programs. Please reach out to anyone on our Leadership Team if you’d like to find out more.

Next month is Mental Health Awareness Month. We have probably all struggled at some point with our mental health and dealt with having the blues, feeling down in the dumps, or depression. In May, Mental Health America reminds us to #LookAroundLookWithin as we consider every part of our environment and how it affects our mental health and wellbeing. If you are struggling with mental health, doing things like improving your home environment, connecting with your community, and spending time in nature can help improve your mental health. At WTS, we provide many opportunities to connect with others and develop a sense of belonging.

Please consider joining us on May 16 for our next Membership Mixer hosted by HDR. This event is for anyone who is interested in learning more about what a WTS Membership offers or just connecting with other members. If you can’t make that event, we will be hosting a members-only Lagers & Leadership on May 25 in Fort Worth. Space is limited for this event. You can check your email for details about these two events. I hope to see you at our Spring Professional Development Event with guest speaker, Teri Fisher of Insight Strategies, on April 27 at NCTCOG. Registration is also open for the 2023 WTS International Conference The Great Intersection, on May 1012 in Atlanta, GA.

As always, remember to stay safe, take care of yourself and respect each other. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
